Summary:

The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Labor Assistant.

The work schedule for this position is: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Duties

The Political/Labor Assistant researches and prepares factual and analytical reports on Ethiopia’s political situation to inform officers and the Front Office and advance policy objectives. The incumbent is the section’s expert on labor issues, including internal and external migration for economic opportunity, trafficking of persons, and laws and practices pertaining to labor across sectors. The incumbent backs up the Political Specialist and the Political Assistant and may cover other portfolio issues as assigned. The incumbent develops relevant political contacts, arranges meetings, provides briefing materials, translates materials, and interprets for officers, as required. 

Qualifications and Evaluations

EXPERIENCE:- Three years of progressively responsible experience working on Labor issues, either with a consulting firm, a large company or a union is required. 

Education:- Two years of university study is required.

LANGUAGE:-

  • Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. (This may be tested)
  • Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Amharic is required. (This may be tested)            

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:- 

  • The ability to deal effectively with representatives of the U.S. and business community and with colleagues in the Embassy and/or host governments is required. Skill in keyboarding, numerical skills, and the use of most elements of the Microsoft Office suite is required. Good analytical, negotiating, and time management skills, along with strong proofreading skills and attention to detail, are required (this may be tested)

2.Position: Budget Analyst/Accountant – All Interested Applicants/All Sources

The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Budget Analyst/Accountant.

The work schedule for this position is:

Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Financial Assistant, the incumbent performs all aspects of allotment accounting, establishes obligations, issues fiscal data for verifying fund availability under USG Appropriations Law, provides monthly (or more frequent) Status of Funds reports for multiple agencies and formulates budgets for Serviced Agencies. Serves as backup to fellow Budget Analysts/Accountants.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of four years of work experience in the areas of accounting, budgeting, auditing, or accounts payable is required.

Education: A University Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management is required.

Must be able to effectively grasp, conceptualize, articulate, and communicate complex data and information orally and in writing to personnel at all levels throughout the Mission. Must exercise a good level of interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information at the working level. Must be a self-starter and able to visualize complex concepts. Must have basic knowledge of computers and software and be able to increase skills in that area through training. Must possess a high level of skill in articulating complex issues and relationships between functions/programs/projects and funding options. Must be knowledgeable with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint. Must have numerical skills to analyze and summarize financial reports. (These may be tested)

Duties

This position provides semi-skilled assistance to the technical level positions by performing general maintenance and upkeep work at the U.S. Embassy compound buildings, residences, and grounds. Responsibilities include the performance of non-skilled manual tasks such as demolition work, painting, minor plumbing work, general cleanup of common areas, and minor masonry work including filling gaps on walls, laying of bricks, repairing and/or installing locks and other minor preventative maintenance tasks. This position would assist other Facility Management trades positions such as the Electrical Maintenance Worker, HVAC Maintenance Worker, or Carpentry Maintenance Worker.?

Qualifications and Evaluations

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of plumbing and commercial or industrial HVAC/mechanical heating, refrigeration, and ventilation systems.?

EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school is required and completion of vocational training from an accredited institution recognized as producing journeyman-level technicians with specialization in the plumbing or general construction fields is required.
