Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia was established in 1974 G.C by Drs. Catherine and Reginald Hamlin. Including our main Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, we have five regional Hospitals, Rehabilitation and Reintegration center and The Hamlin College of Midwives. The Hamlin College of Midwives is an accredited private higher education institution. The college is part of the Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE). We deploy midwives into rural health centers across the country and provide mentoring and other support services to these facilities.)
The Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia invites applicants for the following position:
Job Purpose:
We are seeking to appoint a fully qualified professional who has demonstrable ability to work in a team and display excellent communication skills and play pivotal role in bringing change in improving quality of teaching, learning and research activities and through capacity building and implementing a needed system.
Major Duties and Responsibilities include the following but not limited to:
- Manage and lead overall College activities, under and post graduate programs, research activities, trainings, and community service, performance, staff, the academic progress of the students and the deployment of Hamlin Midwives in collaboration with prevention manager
- Maintain good relations with concerned national authorities, stake-holders, and international partners.
- Periodically evaluate the Hamlin Midwives development program in collaboration with Prevention Manager
- Executes all decisions of the college with respect to appointment and promotion, renewal of contracts, admission of students, graduation etc., in accordance with the rules and regulations of the HFE/ HMC.
- Proposes to the CEO; the establishment of new programs; revision of existing programs, curriculum; if needed.
- Design, adjust and improve the curriculum when required by the accreditation body, MOH or any audit or supervisory body.
- Supervise and strictly follow-up the overall academic calendar and achievement of activities within a given academic calendar, and the academic staff.
- Coordinates the preparation of plans, programs and budget in collaboration with department Heads and submit to the CEO for the allocation of the approved budget among the various units, programs of the college and follow-up the implementation of the CEO’s decisions;
- Ensure compliance with government standards for national accreditation
- Coordinate all instructional, research and other activities and nurturing conducive work atmosphere at the College
- Ensure that effective teaching methodologies are deployed in the College in order to create quality and innovative learning environment
- To represent HCM in all local and external meetings.
- Issue rules and procedures for the proper administration of the college in line with the overall policies and regulations of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.
- Makes sure that the policies, rules and regulations of the College as well as HFE are well known to the staff and students of the college
- Endeavors to establish good working relationship with internal and external government and non-government organizations, and other stake holders
- Plans and execute schemes and programs that promote academic excellence and welfare of both the staff and students;
- Serve students and staffs fairly and equitability.
- Follow up and ensure the implementation of decision and directives of the CEO, and (SMT and Board of Trustees, if any).
- Sign all academic agreements with the third parties on behalf of the college in consultation with the CEO.
- Engage in teaching and advising students’ projects and researches for restricted hours.
- Carries out academic actions: probation, exclusions, readmission, special evaluations, etc.
- Supervises the implementation of all facets of the college programs
- Reviews and attempts to resolve students’ academic problems, including clarification of requirements, waivers, substitutions, exceptions, complaints, etc.
- Supervises graduation audits and certifications.
- Prepare periodic reports to concerned body when required.
- Prepare any required activity report and submit to accreditation body
- Avail capacity-building training for staff and contribute towards staff professional development
- Develop Research Unit in the College in line with research unit at HFE, Head Quarter.
- Maintain safety, security and wellbeing of students in coordination with the College Administrator
- Effectively handle any issues brought to attention and refer to CEO when needed.
- Meet with CEO on a weekly basis and provide progress report
- To perform any other related duties as assigned by CEO.

Job Requirements
Required Educational level/Specialization:
- PHD, Assistant or Associate professor, or Master’s degree in Midwifery, Reproductive health, MPH in public health specialized in reproductive health, MD specialized in reproductive health, or related fields.
Work Experience:
- 6 + Years of experience out of which 3 Years’ and above in a managerial position, as a dean in similar position in a higher educational institution.

Communications Officer
Job Summary:
proper implementation of communication, awareness and partnership strategies of HFE. Carryout all media works including the development and implementation of plans and communication, and best use of media.
Main Duties include the following but not limited to:
- To manage all matters related to guests who visit the Hospital, including Hospital tours, preparing timetables for guests arriving and communicating with the CEO and other relevant staff concerning reception of the guests if needed.
- Source news stories that enhance the institution’s reputation and brand, and convey them elegantly in written and digital formats
- To prepare suitable schedule for visitors in line with the direction from the CEO.
- Monitor the media, including newspapers, magazines, journals, broadcasts, newswires, social media sites and blogs, for opportunities for clients
- Write and edit in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles and annual reports
- Prepare and supervise the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programmes.
- Organize events (such as press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours), source speakers and seek out sponsorship opportunities
- Maintain and update information on the organization’s website
- Manage and update information and engage with users on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook
- Foster good community relations through events such as open days and through involvement in community initiatives
- To provide a brief presentation to visitors about the work of the organization; in the Hospital, outreach centers, in Hamlin College of Midwives, and Rehabilitation and Reintegration center.
- To prepare speeches, newsletter, thank letters, updates and stories of patients, Hamlin College of Midwives students, graduate midwives, etc. and other cases as necessary both in English and Amharic to keep donors, partners and other concerned bodies, organizations informed about the work of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.
- To develop and maintain/strengthen partnerships and network with other stakeholders especially with media institutions and journalists to strengthen the media related works of HFE.
- To build HFE staff capacity in identifying basic information about HFE’s works to prepare major HFE’s works stories and messages.
- Perform any other duties appropriate to the role, as required by the Supervisor.
