Accountant

To strengthen our highly committed and passionate team, we are looking for an Accountant with the following Job Brief and responsibilities. 

  Role Profile

  • Enforce internal controls and disbursement processes to ensure proper management of cash and bank accounts.
  • Safeguards for cash and cheques kept in the office; ensure controlled access, security and safety
  • Oversee monthly reconciliation and ensure outstanding items are addressed on time.
  • Proper follow-up on advance and its liquidations
  • Prepare receivables and payables schedule and reconcile with QuickBooks ledger balance.
  • Prepare payment vouchers, checks, payment letters, and timely disbursement.
  • General bookkeeping and accounting for CO (Country Office) including (but not limited to) postings, import of data, bank transfers, processing payroll journal, taxes, adjustments in accounting software, reconciliations, and the monthly closings of the financial accounting for review of the Finance Manager
  • Ensure payments are processed promptly and according to the organization’s policy and procedures.
  • Support the preparation of the withholding and other tax payments, reports, and reconciling of the unsettled tax items.
  • Prepare  government taxes and deductions (employee payroll, employee pension, and withholding tax) online and pay to tax authority
  • Ensure all supporting documents are provided and validated according to the signature regulations.
  • Preparation of payment runs for review and approval to the authorized personnel.   
  • Prepare and support with audit documentation for approval of the Finance Manager.          
  • Assist the Finance Manager in the preparation of monthly financial statements.       
  • Responsible for proper documentation of the country office Journal custody
  • Make a financial review of payment requests; ensure adequacy of supporting documentation and compliance with the existing operating procedures
  • Follow-up on the documentation of the procurement of goods and services for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Manage petty cash and safe custody of it. Ensure weekly and monthly cash counts and cash/bank reconciliations.        
  • Keep a checklist for Assets and Inventory of the CO         
  • Perform other related duties as required by the line manager.

Job Requirements

  • BA Degree in accounting from a recognized university with a minimum of 2 years’ experience preferably working within an NGO setting.
  • Strong knowledge of computer programs Ms.-Excel, Word, and any accounting software preferably QuickBooks
  • Excellent communication and reporting skill.
  •  Detail oriented.
  • Able to work under pressure.
