Kepler is a leading education-to-employment organization that is building a transformative model of higher education-to-employment for young people across Africa. Through a rigorous curriculum of in-person, online, and on-the-job learning, Kepler students graduate with the relevant skills and the right attitude to meet the needs of the changing region and global economy. For our degree programs, we partner with Southern New Hampshire University – a global leader in competency-based higher education – which allows our students to attain affordable, internationally recognized degrees while studying at Kepler. In 2022, we started offering bachelor’s degrees at a locally accredited university in Rwanda, Kepler College. We continue to build partnerships for degrees and skilling to prepare Africa’s youth for the skills and competencies of today and tomorrow’s jobs and opportunities.

Since 2013, our 80+ staff has served nearly 1,000 students to date across two campuses in Rwanda – our flagship campus in Kigali, as well as a second campus in the Kiziba refugee camp in Western Rwanda, where we serve refugee learners. Over 90% of our graduates are employed six months after their graduation.

Kepler also served 3000+ learners through our bridging and upskilling programs in Rwanda and Ethiopia, and we’re expanding operations in several countries in Africa starting in 2024. Core to the mission is offering pathways to self-reliance for vulnerable and refugee learners.

Communication Officer

About the Role

Kepler is looking for a dynamic Communication Officer to design and implement Kepler Ethiopia’s communications strategy in Ethiopia. Reporting to the Ethiopia Country Director, the Communication Officer will work to align communications collateral with the Kepler impact and aspirations. An ideal candidate has worked in multi-country NGOs or higher learning institutions and has at least three years of experience in communications management.

The Communication Officer at Kepler Ethiopia Office plays a crucial role in developing and implementing communication strategies to engage with various stakeholders, including students, staff, alumni, partners, donors, and the wider community. This role is responsible for effectively conveying Kepler Ethiopia’s mission, impact, and programs through various communication channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communication Planning: Develop comprehensive communication plans aligned with Kepler’s goals and objectives, including Kepler’s messaging strategies, target audiences, and communication channels.
  • Content Creation: Create compelling and impactful content for various platforms, including social media, Kepler website, newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials. Content may include articles, blog posts, videos, infographics, and testimonials.
  • Social Media Management: Coordinate closely with the Communication Office at Kepler Headquarters to curate and share content relevant to the Kepler Ethiopia office on Kepler’s platforms.
  • Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to generate press coverage and increase visibility for Kepler’s initiatives and achievements in Ethiopia.
  • Internal Communication: Facilitate internal communication processes to ensure alignment and collaboration among team members across different departments and locations. Develop internal newsletters, announcements, and communication guidelines.
  • Event Coordination: Coordinate communication efforts for events, workshops, conferences, and other outreach activities. This includes pre-event promotion, on-site coverage, and post-event follow-up.
  • Brand Management: Protect and enhance Kepler Ethiopia’s brand reputation by maintaining consistency in messaging, visual identity, and tone of voice across all communication channels.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Track and analyze communication metrics to assess the effectiveness of different strategies and initiatives. Use data-driven insights to optimize future communication efforts.

Contract Type: Full-time, Open Ended

Reports to: Ethiopia Country Director

Expected Start Date: As soon as possible.

Job Requirements

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in communication, public relations, or marketing roles, preferably in the education or non-profit sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences and channels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools, content creation software, and analytics platforms.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and collaborative approach to work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Kepler’s mission and values.

Requirement: the candidate should be legally eligible to work in Ethiopia.
