HEALTH COORDINATOR
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for providing leadership and technical oversight to MTI’s country Health Program. Ensures all aspects of the program cycle are carried out i.e. assessment, planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition interventions. Ensures high level coordination and joint implementation with WHO, UNFPA, UNHCR and MoH teams and works closely with Health Managers and Nutrition Officers to ensure maximum program impact.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the definition, planning, organization and update of annual nutrition project activities and its budgeting, in close collaboration with Nutrition Coordinator, MEAL Manager, Protection Manager, Field Coordinator and Regional Response Coordinator to ensure all aspects of the program cycle are carried out and that nutrition programs are evidence-based and implemented in a comprehensive and cost-effective manner
- Develop SOPs for health activities.
- Develop, monitor, train staff and maintain clinical standards and SOPs to ensure a high quality of service provision.
- Collaborate with Health and Nutrition Managers and clinical staff to ensure a high standard of program quality and compliance with donor requirements
- Provide technical guidance to MTI management and staff on all health related activities
- Ensure close coordination with other humanitarian actors and donors in health (e.g. WHO, UNFPA, UNHCR, FOA, MoH and additional donors and NGOs)
- Manage WASH and IPC standards in health facilities according to relevant national guidelines and WHO WASH FIT tool.
- Ensure all health and clinical staff receive mentoring and capacity building opportunities
- Ensure direct reports have clear objectives, receive mentorship and participate in capacity building opportunities
- Supervise health sector research and ensure that they are conducted according to protocols, participate in identification of target population, sample size and methodologies for planned nutritional surveys or studies
- Track budget performance and advise management on budget related matters; responsible for the appropriate use of materials and assets
- Analyse HIS/HMIS data to drive decision making and contribute to the preparation of reports
- Contribute to the formulation of concept notes and project submissions, including budgets, with special emphasis on innovative approaches and methods to deliver health services
- Support medical inventory officers, pharmacists and logistics in related medical stock management to ensure a rational and efficient use of material resources
- Support pharmaceutical and medical supply procurements
- Participate in trainings and represent MTI at health-related meetings
- Ensure that health activities are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and MTI Code of Conduct
- Conduct performance evaluations and enforce disciplinary procedures as per MTI policy
- Act as last line clinical consultation and make recommendations for referrals for specialized care
- Support production of site and donor reports leading on analysis of data and response to achievements or shortfalls
- Other duties as assigned
- Ensure safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies.

- Technical: HQ Health and Nutrition Advisor
Workdays & Number of scheduled hours per week:
- Monday-Friday, 40-48 hours/week, occasional weekends and public holidays
Position Type: Regular Employee
Travel: Frequent travel to Amhara, Afar, Tigray, Somali

- Direct: Health Specialist, CO Pharmacist
- Technical: Health and Nutrition Managers
Job Requirements
EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS
- Masters in Public Health or related field (MD preferred)
- Additional studies in Project Planning and Management or Monitoring and Evaluation is required
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 years of health field experience, inclusive of 3 years at a senior management level, is required
- Experience working with UNHCR, WHO, UNICEF and other INGOs is an added advantage
- Experience working in emergency operations is required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE
- Extensive knowledge of nutrition principles, management of acute malnutrition and conducting nutrition surveys and assessments
- Extensive knowledge of project cycle management
- Extensive knowledge of UNHCR, WFP, NICEF, ECHO, BHA, PRM,U and other donor guidelines
- Knowledge of ERP systems
SKILLS
- Highly skilled in nutrition project planning, implementation, monitoring and coordination
- Skilled in conducting trainings and providing mentorship to develop a high functioning team
- Skilled in developing and managing budgets and adhering to donor requirements
- Skilled in using HIS/HMIS database and making data-driven decisions
- Skilled in research and report writing
ABILITIES
- Keen desire to build capacity of staff
- Highly organized and able to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Ability to be flexible and manage stress, especially in situations which require a high degree of diplomacy
- Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
- This position requires frequent travel to health facilities located in remote areas with very basic living conditions.
