Background of OBU
Oda Bultum University (OBU) is one of public higher learning institutions in Ethiopia, established in November, 2015 by decree No.322/2014 of the Council of Ministers of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The University is located at Chiro town in West Hararghe zone of the Oromia National Regional State. It is located at 325 km southeast of Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. The area is known for its high quality agricultural products; coffee, honey, and meat that fetch highest price at locally and internationally market; and its charitable society.
As a public higher learning institution, Oda Bultum University has set itself core responsibilities, with a focus on producing ethical, competent qualified graduates, problem solving researches, and demand driven community services. The University started with seven Colleges, two institutes and one school, namely; College of Agriculture, College of Agro-industry science, College of Business and Economics, College of natural and computational sciences, College of natural resources and environmental sciences, College of social sciences and humanity, institute of technology, institute of land administration, and law school. The University is conducting continuing and distance undergraduate programs. At present there are 32 undergraduate fields of study in the university. The University has more than 300 academic staff and 500 administrative supporting staff.
Oda Bultum University is undertaking researches and community service activities in various fields of in consultation with local communities and other stakeholders to make contribution to sustainable economic, social and political development of the country. The University is planning and working on to initiate relevant postgraduate (M.Sc. /MA) programs.
